Hello from Choc Lit’s newest recruit Mandy James

Well I’m beginning to feel like a real Choc-Liteer now – writing on the blog and everything! I can’t quite believe that I’m actually part of such a fantastic team of talented and lovely people. It’s a bit daunting too given the prestigious awards recently won by our members!

Okay, I’d better introduce myself. My name is Mandy James I live in Bristol with my husband and two cats and I have written for as long as I can remember. (Sounds like a confession of some sort!)

In snatched hours alongside a demanding teaching career I wrote my first novel in 2003 and lots of short stories. In 2010 I had my first short story published in an anthology and had quite a few more after that. And then I had an e-book released in February this year.

But wait for it …drum roll… my novel A Stitch in Time will be published in April 2013 by Choc Lit !!! Yes, in print with my name on it and everything!!  People will actually be able to buy it in shops, yes – in shops!! I am so excited I can’t tell you! Well I can tell you as I’m here writing about it, but you know what I mean 🙂

So what’s the novel about? It’s about a time-travelling teacher…yes, really.

Sarah Yates is a thirty something history teacher, divorced, disillusioned and desperate to have more excitement in her life.  A typical day is spent teaching increasingly disaffected adolescents who make comments about her personal appearance, attending meaningless meetings and then home to an empty house. Then, one evening the door bell rings and the handsome and mysterious John Needler brings more excitement into her life than Sarah could ever imagine… but not in the way she hoped for.

Okay, I think that’s enough – don’t want to give too much away!

Thanks for reading and I’m sure I’ll have lots more to say in future. Oh, by the way, I’m on Twitter and Facebook if you don’t already know. Twitter- @akjames61 and Facebook Mandy James, bye for now 🙂

Belated congrats on such a great deal. Loving the sound of the book – I bet thousands of teachers out there will be up for a bit of escapist fun – and I’m already imagining John N. as a David Tennant look-a-like. Looking forward to it!
